Senior Legal Counsel - P&C Insurance

Our client are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their team. Newly created role and the chance to join a collaborative team of legal professionals, where your contributions are crucial to the ambitious goals of our growing business. The Legal Counsel will provide day to day legal support to the US business unit, working in partnership with the company's key operational functions. Core responsibilities include policy form and endorsement drafting, product strategy development and innovation, legal support for marketing initiatives, assisting with regulatory inquiries and filings, serving as legal stakeholder on project teams, and legal research. This is an exciting opportunity for a go-getter who can be successful in a fast-paced environment, is able to balance multiple daily priorities, and is excited to be exposed to all aspects of commercial specialty insurance.


What you'll be doing:

  • Support marketing initiatives by advising on compliance with applicable commercial advertising laws and insurance regulations.
  • Draft policy terms and conditions, endorsements and related documents.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and trends to inform product strategies and innovation.
  • Provide strategic advice on regulatory matters and developments of significant impact, working proactively with the business to facilitate the regulatory change management framework, support compliance and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead response to state regulatory inquiries, objections and consumer complaints. Assist with managing regulatory audits and exams.
  • Conduct legal research and monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting the business, providing timely legal counsel and updates to various business areas to ensure compliance across business operations.
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal clients, working strategically and in collaboration with various business areas including Marketing, Service Delivery, Underwriting and Claims to resolve legal issues, provide solution-oriented guidance, and mitigate risk.
  • As senior counsel, supervise the work and projects of other attorneys on the team.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

The Team:

This position is an integral role within the US Legal team, reporting directly to the VP P&C Legal.


Qualifications:

  • Member of the bar of Georgia or another state (New York or Illinois) with 5-7 years of P&C insurance industry experience in a law firm and/or in house legal department.
  • Strong understanding of contract principles, insurance law, and regulatory requirements applicable to the industry.
  • Superior drafting, negotiation and communication skills with ability to convey complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to build strong cross functional relationships with internal clients.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment with proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Superior business judgement, time management skills, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters and deadlines.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of management and/or leadership experience.
