The 3rd largest writer of medical professional liability in New York State is seeking a Medical Malpractice Claims Supervisor to lead a claims team in managing complex medical liability cases with precision and professionalism. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in medical malpractice claims and strong leadership skills. Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; law degree (attorney) preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years of supervisory experience in a relevant field preferred.
- Demonstrated technical competence and leadership skills suitable for a supervisory role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgement.
Comprehensive understanding of:
- Insurance processes, including coverage, liability, and damage analysis.
- Reinsurance practices.
- Claims file management.
Experience & Skills:
- Proven record of professional achievement and leadership experience.
- Ability to model cooperative and appropriate behavior for staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure timely completion of:
- Case summaries.
- Diary maintenance.
- Reserve adequacy evaluations.
- Trial management.
- Proficiency in utilizing company tools and systems, including diary, notes, and SAP reports.
- Commitment to ensuring data accuracy and integrity in claims handling.
- Skilled in providing feedback, mentoring, and opportunities for growth to staff at various performance levels.
- Ability to identify and engage high-potential staff in departmental projects.
- Expertise in developing and implementing training action plans based on audit findings.
- Capable of evaluating and improving claims processes for greater efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in preparing accurate and relevant management reports.
- Strategic approach to claims management, including payment forecasting and monthly reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain an appropriate open/close ratio for claims.
- Conduct regular strategic reviews and round tables with claims management or counsel.
- Supervise claims department staff and ensure adherence to best practices and processing
- guidelines.
- Support senior management objectives and maintain financial monitoring/management.
- Assist in developing claims process strategies to enhance efficiency.
** The role is based in the newly revamped Roslyn, New York office or Rochester, NY office. It will be 5 days on site while you are trained and onboarded. Once you are up and running, it will drop down to a hybrid model of 3 days onsite / 2 days remote.
