Position Overview

Oliver James is currently supporting a well-established investment management firm that specializes in alternative investments, including private equity, credit, and real estate. One of its newly established entities, is actively developing an innovative insurance platform through a combination of reinsurance and strategic mergers and acquisitions, leveraging expertise in credit and financial services to drive growth and innovation in the sector.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position will lead the financial operations of this newly established entity. This high-impact role blends strategic financial leadership with operational expertise to oversee the company's financial health, regulatory compliance, and reinsurance processes. The CFO will play a vital role in aligning financial strategies with business objectives, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in reporting across multiple jurisdictions, including the U.S., Bermuda, and the U.K.

Compensation: 250k base salary + bonus potential
Location: Manhattan, Flexible working schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting:

    • Lead compliance with US GAAP, Statutory, and regulatory reporting, including Financial Condition Reports, other filings.
    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Budgeting & Analysis:

    • Oversee annual budgeting, forecasting, and performance management processes.
    • Provide quarterly financial analysis and strategic insights to inform decision-making.
  • Reinsurance Operations:

    • Coordinate with financial, actuarial, M&A, and legal teams on reinsurance transactions.
    • Manage operational aspects of reinsurance processes, including implementation and oversight.
  • Process Improvement:

    • Develop a strategic vision for automating and streamlining financial reporting and operational workflows.
    • Ensure robust internal controls and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Team Leadership:

    • Inspire and manage a high-performing finance team from scratch, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
    • Build relationships with auditors and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication.
  • Stakeholder Communication:

    • Present financial performance and strategic updates to the Board of Directors, investors, and executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation required.
  • 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within the life insurance or annuity sectors.
  • Expertise in life, annuity, and health insurance accounting under US GAAP, Statutory, and EBS.
  • Recent experience with Bermuda regulatory filings is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial software, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and strong reporting capabilities.
  • Proven ability to design and maintain effective internal controls, including SOX compliance.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to thrive in dynamic environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building cross-functional relationships.
